Technical Advisor – Southern Africa
Roland has over 25 years of experience in Corporate and Investment Banking with the latter number of years having the responsibility of leading a capable team of professionals responsible for participating in the project financing of mining ventures throughout Africa. This involved the evaluation, analysis of and finalisation of financial arrangements for the ventures by working closely with the project sponsors and international investors.
Roland worked for Fitch Ratings and was responsible for their commercial development and growth in Africa, dealing with Issuers across Banks, Utilities and Corporates. He worked closely with the Heads of State Departments including the Ministries of Finance, Capital Markets Authorities and Central Banks. He was also responsible for doing presentations on credit rating topics at conferences and seminars arranged for leaders in and members of South African business, business organisations and Government, including the South African Reserve Bank and Treasury.
Roland worked for the South African Financial Services Board, now Financial Sector Conduct Authority, as Head of the Credit Rating Services Department and was responsible for a competent team whose responsibilities included ongoing regulation, administration and supervision of registered Credit Rating Agencies. His duties included assisting the Authority in respect of meeting the requirements of the International Organisation of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) and the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA).
Roland joined our team in 2020. His responsibilities include expanding Inclusion’s activities in the Southern African Region and the development of new services, such as ISR’s new sustainability certifications and our environmental, social and governance ratings, aimed at for-profit corporations.
Roland holds a B.Compt. (Accounting) degree from the University of South Africa and a Master of Business Leadership from the University of South Africa, School of Business Leadership.
